Marlene Mogado - Bio

Marlene is honoured with the "2004 YMCA Canada Peace Medallion" at Markham Town Hall ceremonies by officials of YMCA, Markham and York Region Councils.
Marlene has served Markham and York Region
for over 28 years as a community volunteer:
- Chair, Town of Markham Race Relations Committee;
- Co-Chair, "Many Faces of Markham";
- Co-Chair, Milliken Children's Festival;
- Founding Director, Canadian Federation of Intercultural Friendship;
- Chair & Founding Director, Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians;
- President & Counselor, Women's Sexual Assault Helpline & Outreach Services of York Region;
- Director, York South Simcoe Training and Adjustment Board;
- Member, York Region District Health Council Planning Committee;
- Member, Crime Prevention Committee, Town of Markham;
- Member, Milliken Mills Social Agency Network;
- Chair, Helpline & Outreach Services of York Region;
- Teaching Member, Junior Achievement of Metro Toronto and York Region;
- Helpline Counselor, York Region Abuse Program;
- Member, Community Link Panel, Markham Economist & Sun and Stouffville Tribune;
- Member, York Region Community Services Council; and
- Founding Director, Old Kennedy Housing Project, Markham's first affordable housing program.
Honours and Awards:
- 2007 Most Outstanding U.P. (University of the Philippines) Graduate Award;
- 2007 Province of Ontario, 20 Years' Volunteer Service Award;
- 2004 YMCA Canada Peace Medallion;
- 2004 York Region (ICOW) 'In Celebration of Women' Achievement Award, and
- 2002 Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for Community Service.
Marlene has been a secondary school teacher, and retired from Bell Canada after 28 years of service.
Marlene has lived with her husband in Old Markham Village for nearly 30 years. Their daughter Linelle attended Kateri Tekakwitha CES, St. Patrick (Markham) CES, and Brother Andre Catholic High School. She is a California lawyer and will be called to the Ontario Bar in January 2011.
